Soften Expression Lines While Preserving Natural Movement

BOTOX Cosmetic contains onabotulinumtoxinA, a prescription medication that temporarily reduces muscle activity in selected treatment areas. It may be used to soften dynamic lines created by repeated facial movement. The treatment plan is based on facial anatomy, muscle strength, expression pattern, prior treatment, and the patient's preference for subtle or more complete correction.

Concerns Commonly Discussed

  • Frown lines between the eyebrows

  • Forehead lines

  • Crow's-feet around the eyes

  • Selected lower-face or neck concerns when medically appropriate and within the physician's treatment plan

What to Expect

Small amounts are injected into selected muscles using a fine needle. Treatment is usually brief. Improvement begins gradually over several days, with the full effect commonly assessed after approximately two weeks. Results are temporary and often last about three to four months, although duration varies.

Common Effects

  • Temporary redness, swelling, tenderness, bruising, or headache

  • A tight, heavy, or unfamiliar sensation while the treatment settles

  • Temporary asymmetry or need for a follow-up adjustment

Important Risks

Eyelid or eyebrow drooping, blurred or double vision, dry eye, altered smile, facial asymmetry, or unwanted weakness may occur. Botulinum toxin products carry a boxed warning because toxin effects may rarely spread beyond the injection area and cause generalized weakness, difficulty speaking, difficulty swallowing, or difficulty breathing. These symptoms require immediate medical care.

Treatment May Be Postponed or Avoided

  • Pregnancy or breastfeeding

  • Infection or significant inflammation at the proposed injection site

  • Certain neuromuscular disorders

  • Prior serious reaction to a botulinum toxin product

  • Medication or medical conditions that increase risk
