Cardiometabolic Health

Understand and Improve Cardiometabolic Risk

Cardiometabolic health includes the factors that influence the risk of heart disease, stroke, diabetes, fatty-liver disease, kidney disease, and loss of healthy function over time. Important factors include blood pressure, cholesterol, blood sugar, body composition, sleep, activity, nutrition, tobacco exposure, and family history.  A patient may benefit from metabolic evaluation even when weight loss is not the primary goal.

Conditions and Concerns We May Evaluate

  • Prediabetes and blood-sugar concerns

  • Insulin resistance

  • Abnormal cholesterol

  • High blood pressure

  • Central weight gain

  • Fatty-liver risk

  • Family history of diabetes or cardiovascular disease

  • Difficulty maintaining muscle

  • Medication-related metabolic changes

Testing

Testing is based on age, symptoms, family history, prior results, and overall risk. It may include:

  • Blood pressure, body-composition, fasting glucose, A1c, and lipid testing

  • Selected advanced lipid, insulin-resistance, liver, kidney, or inflammatory markers

  • Coronary artery calcium scoring for selected patients

  • Carotid or other vascular imaging when appropriate

  • Additional cardiac testing when indicated

How Andelana MD Uses These Tests

Laboratory and imaging findings are combined with family history, blood pressure, body composition, activity, sleep, medications, and symptoms. The goal is to clarify risk, identify modifiable factors, and prioritize next steps.

Treatment Planning

Recommendations may involve nutrition, activity, weight management, medication, sleep improvement, and laboratory monitoring. Referral may be recommended when a concern falls outside the scope of the consultation.
