Microneedling With PRP

PRP Facial Rejuvenation and Skin Renewal
Microneedling creates controlled microscopic channels in the skin. Platelet-rich plasma is prepared from the patient's own blood and applied topically during and after microneedling. This approach is commonly called a PRP facial or vampire facial. At Andelana MD, PRP used around the eye area is applied to the skin with microneedling; PRP is not injected into the periocular area.
Concerns That May Be Addressed
-
Fine lines and crepey skin
-
Uneven texture or dullness
-
Selected acne scars
-
Sun-related skin changes
-
Overall skin-quality and rejuvenation goals
How the Treatment Is Performed
-
The skin and medical history are reviewed, including pigment risk, active skin conditions, medications, and prior procedures.
-
A small blood sample is drawn and processed to prepare PRP.
-
The skin is cleansed and topical anesthetic may be used.
-
Microneedling is performed at a depth selected for the treatment area and concern.
-
PRP is applied topically to the treated skin, followed by appropriate post-treatment care.
Recovery
Redness, warmth, tightness, mild swelling, pinpoint bleeding, dryness, or peeling may occur. The skin may resemble a sunburn for one to several days. Makeup, exercise, heat exposure, swimming, active skincare ingredients, and sun exposure may need to be limited according to the written aftercare instructions.
Risks and Limitations
-
Pain, redness, swelling, bruising, dryness, or prolonged irritation
-
Infection or cold-sore reactivation
-
Post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation or hypopigmentation
-
Scarring or texture change, particularly with improper aftercare or overly aggressive treatment
-
Results vary and usually require time and, in some patients, a series of treatments
Combination Treatment
For selected patients, HydraFacial cleansing and hydration may be incorporated into a broader PRP microneedling plan. The physician determines whether treatments should occur during the same visit or be staged, based on skin sensitivity, pigment risk, active ingredients, and the intensity of treatment.
